Kentucky Lake ( Pickwick Dam) 6-12-04

Another tuff day on the water, despite the fact that some of the top anglers in the nation were competing. Only 6 limits were weighed in and 38 cats total that weighed in at 193 pounds, thats a 5 pound average. First Place went to Phil King and David Coughlin of Corinth, Mississippi with a 5 fish limit that weighed 38.05 lbs. Second and Big Cat went to James and Joyce Smith of Ramer, Tennessee with 2 cats that weighed 26.15 lbs, with the big blue weighing 18.05 lbs.

Pictures coming soon

Hope to see everyone July 17th at Wilson Lake

Wilson Lake 5-8-04
There were 9 teams competing for $500 in Cash and it only took 54 Pounds to win.....Thats 5 fish around a 10 Lb average......which is low for Wilson in a cat tournament....The cats were caught in various places in different water depths and no real pattern was found by any of the anglers....No water was being generated out of Wheeler and it was hot to say the least....But everyone did have a blast and there were four 20 lbers weighed in the biggest being 24.....The winning team was SCA Members Richard Woodruff and James Azbell, they also took Big Cat....They won a total of 522 dollars for their catch, and have been doing very well through out the year.

Guntersville Lake 4-17-04

With bright blue sky's, 15 MPH winds, and no water being generated by TVA.....this made for a tuff day of fishing on Guntersville lake.....Along with the fact that Guntersville can be a tough lake for catfisherman most of the time......It took two fish that weighed in at 35 lbs. 13 OZ. to get first, caught by Sammy and Mike Mitchell......the team also got Big Cat with a 26.4 Blue Cat....these fish were caught on cut skip-jack in 15-25 ft of water near Scottsboro....only one Team managed a five fish limit, and more channels were weighed in than anything.

Come out and Join us at Mcfarland Park on Pickwick Lake next Saturday from 2-10 P.M.......There will be fun for all and I anticipate to see several cats in the 25-50 lb range.

Wheeler Lake March 27, 2004
Another great SCA event with beautiful weather, calm waters, and huge cats caught. With a large crowd gathered at the weigh in site, partly due to a large bass tournament weighing in only 30 minutes prior to our weigh in. The crowd got an eye full to say the least. With the first few 30 pounder's getting weighed in, the bass anglers jaws dropped, some saying how can you land those. Then the team of Richard Woodruff and James Azbell brought in a 60 lb Blue Cat and everyone was amazed, then they got out a 75 lb blue then another nice fish for a 3 fish total weight of 168 pounds. Needles to say they took first and big cat. Several more nice fished were weighed including a 42 lb flathead.

All fish were caught using cut / whole skip-jack for bait, in the 25-50 ft depth range.

Hope to see everyone April 17 at Guntersville State Park.

Wilson Lake March 6, 2004

Record breaker tournament, but not in boats to turnout..............We had a total of 16 competitors.....I think the rain and lack of good bait, scared several people off........I'll admit bait was hard to come by........But as for the cats, everyone caught fish....There were 30 Blue Cats weighed in and 1 flathead.........With a combined total weight of 622 lb and 8 oz.......Thats a 20 lb average.......4 boats had over 100 lbs....With Mark and Jon Hendon of Florence, Alabama coming in 1st place with a 5 fish limit of 173 lbs.........Followed Closely by Richard Woodruff of Russellville and James Azbell of Florence with 169 lbs..........Big Cat was Taken by Kris Gresham and Tim Faulkner of Florence with a 56 lb Blue.....There were 7 fish weighed in over 40 lbs

Most of these Big Cats were caught in 50-75 ft of water on cut Skip-Jack

Catfishing time is just around the corner guys and it looks like were going to have a "Happy 2004 Cat Year". We have picked up several sponsors, including: Gamakatsu, Spro, and Florence/ Lauderdale Tourism board. Also, I have been working on advertising for the upcoming year. So far the "Tennessee Valley Outdoors" TV Show with Buzzy Byrom and "Fishing Alabama" With Reed Montgomery Radio Show have agreed to help with getting the word out. I also want to thank Dennis Sherer for the stories he wrote and his help in getting us published in "The Great Outdoors of Alabama" and the "Times Daily". Membership is already starting to grow and the season is just starting, so if you haven't joined yet please do. For those who have joined, sorry for the delay in membership packets getting sent out, due to a problem with the T-shirts it will be around the first of the year before you recieve it. I had to re-schedule the classic due to the cabelas classic being on the same day, and I might add another date, so check the tournament page often.

Have a Safe and Merry Christmas !

I made several changes in the tournament schedule due to a few date conflicts, with the new Dixie Distict of U.S. CATS. You can check out their tournament schedule at http://www.uscats.org/dixie-district.htm  Also, I changed the launch location of the Savanna TN. tournament to the Historic Bellis Botel which will be a better facility for our tournament.
